Google, Catastrophe or Life Saver?
Google, when I hear that word a century ago, I’ll probably be laughing, because it’s not even a word. Well not today, Google managed to become a dictionary-approved word. Meaning some big changes are bound to happen. How so, you might ask? This easy way of accessing information came to our lives like a whirlwind of change. It may be a fresh air to me yet a bad omen to others that prefers traditional learning methods better.

When you don’t know the answer to a question, what will you go to? Google! Search through google, and surely by the end of the tenth minute we’ll be more knowledgeable. More than half of the internet users rely on Google in accomplishing their tasks. Short and various information google provides, makes people have a higher ability to pay attention to numerous information in just a snap. On the contrary, it affects our way of thinking, where we’ll tend to set a high level of stimulation. When googling, I’ll actually find articles with interesting headlines. Subconsciously, this behavior actually makes us lethargic in doing or listening to something that doesn’t catch our interest.

It doesn’t stop there, Google branched out to other revolutionary stuff. Take Google maps as an example, Google accommodates the maps and information of the roads all around the world. It enables features which certainly throws the traditional map and method of finding routes out the window. We tend to rely more on Google rather than going out of the car and actually interacting with people. Let’s not forget about Youtube – an oasis of videos company bought by Google. Number of attendances in actual classes grows less, by each video upload. I, myself find it more convenient to learn things from Youtube. Not only is it free, but we can watch it whenever without worrying about unsynchronized schedules.

Time really holds a huge power in our lives. If you can simplify why complicate? That’s why google is like our best pals. You have all the information around the world in the palm of your hands. When faced with this new era of development and improvement, change will be a daily dose. Embrace it, without letting go of the traditional ways. I think google has grown from its old days of just being a search engine, the positive impacts it brings kind of outweighs the negatives. It’s our task to keep it that way, to make google a life saver and not a catastrophe.
